Lake Lanier Fishing

Lake Lanier summer fishing is in full swing. The Striped Bass are on the southern portions of the lake over deep water. Most of the bigger fish seem to be holding on an 80 to 100ft bottom. We have been catching these fish with Blue Back Herring suspended in the 45 to 90ft mark. Using a reel with a line counter really comes in handy this time of year. Using fresh bait also helps when it comes to picky fish. Fluorocarbon leader is a must when Striper fishing. This time of year we rely on our electronics to locate the Lake Lanier Striped Bass. Once we find them we drop baits quickly to see if the fish will fire up and start biting. Using a Capt Mack Farr bucktail jig tipped with a Zoom paddle tail or Fluke is another good technique on locating fish. Once the fish have been located try keeping a live bait going up and down to draw their attention and keep them around. These fish will move on if there is not bait source for them to eat! Don’t be surprised if every rod on the boat gets bit at once. These fish are aggressive this time of year and tune in to other fish eating. Make sure your reel drag setting is good. Lake Lanier boast a lot of trees that these fishlove to run down into. Please remember to only keep what you need and release the others. Good luck. Lake Lanier is an awesome fishery. We are lucky to have this so close to Atlanta.
