Lake Lanier Fishing

Spring is on the horizon. Lots of Lake Lanier fish are starting to bite. The Crappie fishing has been good on the northern part of the lake with several days of 100 plus fish. The Striped Bass bite has really fired up over the last few days. These fish are feeding on small baits right now so matching the hatch is essential. We have been fishing these fish on a 14 to 25 ft bottom. Free linning baits over points and along the bank lines has been most productive.
Walleye
The Walleye bite is is full swing. We have been catching most of our fish on down lining Blue Back Herring and slow trolling night crawlers just on the bottom. The best bite seems to be in the 20ft depths. Be patient with these fish. Most of the time the Walleye nibble and don’t take the bait right away. The Walleye will be heading up the creeks to spawn anytime now and will be easier to catch on shallow diving plugs and crank baits. Look for these fish to continue thier pilgrimage up the creeks and rivers for the spawning run!
